I’ve just finished a great on-line painting course with instructors, Lisa Congdon and Mati McDonough called Get Your Paint On. It stretched me in several ways I hadn’t expected–under painting? Layering? Details? Working on the same large piece for 5 weeks? Who knew? I tend to paint fast and inspired preferring a small canvas because I can finish it in one sitting! This was completely different. We started with a photo…or anything that inspired us…I happened to pick my beloved “Trophy Dress”…this photo was just dying to be painted!
First, the under painting. Very simple, bold shapes, no detail. It was all about getting the paint on the canvas, covering the entire piece.
Next up, layering, more paint, a few details, changing colors if desired….(the great part of painting with acrylics–they dry fast and you can paint right over them.)
And voila, more layers, more details, some shading…introducing “Trophy Dress”, 24″x 36″. Thank you, Lisa and Mati for a wonderfully inspiring class. xo
